Sounds of NYC

live: September 2014

Brief

Sonos’ goal was to reach influencers in New York City with the concept “transformation through sound”. The vibrant NeueHouse was chosen as the location, and a select list of musicians, artists, technologists and press were invited. Our role was to establish an engaging space under the umbrella of architecture, pure art and Sonos product experience.

Solution

We created a map of New York using 300 Play:1 speakers robotically equipped to respond to people, music, movement and the environment. The installation featured the iconic music of NYC – from Brooklyn to the Bronx, Manhattan to Queens – with selections composed/curated by Big Noble and Wolf & Lamb. Visitors could explore the map by moving in front of it, and as the map opened up and responded to their gestures, tracks specific to neighbourhoods across each of the Five Boroughs would play. The result was a seamless celebration of New York’s rich musical heritage,
